Overspeed damage?

Postby Begle1 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:13 pm

What sorts of damage could one expect from, ohh, let's say 5-8 seconds of valve tappin' due to over-generous use of ether?

Most likely none, perhaps a bent pushrod or two.

Someone has to ask; may as well be me. WHY are you using ether in Arizona? Or did you take a trip to the mountains? We're still seeing mid to upper 80s for highs.

Truck wouldn't start. Starved for fuel.

I guess the filter got clogged, compacted itself and sucked air.
After taking it up to 5000 RPM it cleared itself out and worked fine enough to limp the 2 miles back home.

Are there better-than-stock pushrods available that are worth it?

I'm changing out valve springs soon; pushrods are real easy to do at the same time, right?
