Fuel Heater Install

Postby Begle1 » Fri Oct 05, 2007 12:29 pm

So I was taking off my fuel filter today and it pulled off the fuel heater with it.

How are you supposed to take off only the filter?

And how are you supposed to get the heater back on there tight?

Usually the fuel heater stays on. Replace the gasket that goes on top of the fuel heater. Use a drag link socket or a big screwdriver to tighten the spud, it should stay in there the next time you pull the filter.

What's a drag link socket?

No Biggie

Mine's that way too, no big deal. I pull it apart in the morning and soak the heater gasket in some power steering stop leak fluid for a few hours, then just reassemble it with a new filter. Gasket should last alot longer doing it that way. I cannot believe they used that small of a flat o-ring for something like that.

Looks like a big screwdriver bit. Mine's a 9/16", fits perfectly. I inherited it from my grandfather, apparently he needed it for his '53 Willys station wagon (owned from '53-'64). I guess he thought he'd need it again for something.
