Super sized injection pump LEAK!!!

Postby 93DodgeCummins » Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:31 pm

I was driving home the other night and my injection decided to spring a huge leak. In less than 10 miles i dropped a 1/4 tank of fuel on the ground and all over my truck.... Looks like its on the back side of the injection pump maybe where that little plate is. Anyhow it was like having a pressure washer of diesel fuel in there. Fuel got all over the engine fender, firewall, and all over the undercarrage.

When it was running, could you spot where it was leaking? Otherwise, time for a reseal, and check all of the fittings/lines too, something might have cracked...

I remember ptoombs having an issue,or talking about it,with one of the o-ring on the advance pistons bore covers having blown out. Could be your issue

That reminds me of the pile i just drove back from California...
Only mine is ENGINE OIL and it was from crankcase blowby.

Most likely your mess is from the rear timing piston cover, just pull the pump and do a total re-seal.

I thought that was my problem. I pulled the pump, removed the cover, and the o-ring looked ok. I replaced it, replaced the front seal and put it back on. I ran the truck for a few days and noticed a leak again. I finally tracked mine down to the timing plug in the head was slightly loose.

Yea it was spraying out the back side in the middle guess where that plate is. It sprays out pretty good when I turn the lift pump on and really sprays when its running. Anyone know of any really good detailed write ups on a reseal? Gonna need it when I tear into it.

Will I need a dgk-121 or a dgk-126 seal for a full reseal? Also is there any good places to get seals?

I've never heard of the 126 kit. I got the 121 and it had way more parts in it than I knew what to do with.

And believe it or not, done right, you'll use basically ALL of them.

Most of us are just doing the superficial stuff that is dead obvious.
When you get into actually removing the input, vane pump and the fulcrum levers, the re-seal kit gets really bare.

I just needed that square cut o-ring for the top. It let go after I put the pistion pump on. Something about a 20 plus year old o-ring and more pressure than before

I had rear timing cover piston leak, then I had an afc o ring leak (10 times..f-ing dennyt pin, both stg 1 and 2), then I had a ksb leak, then I had the top cover leak, then I had a throttle shaft leak, then I had a delivery valve leak, then I had 1 check ball leak, then the other 1 leaked, then I had my head leak.

I finally broke down and re sealed the whole sob.... well worth it.
