New top end, still has a slight noise

Postby mhuppertz » Sun Mar 10, 2013 5:18 pm

I wouldn't describe it as a knock, but it is something like that. It isn't noticeable under power. I did take apart my POD's and cleaned them, but maybe the pop is off on one of them and it is hitting too early? The only other thing it could be a lobe going bad, but it's not running like that.
I guess I could have my injectors flowed and popped, but am worried about the cost.
Thoughts?

Flowed and popped would run $200 if you had them done through me.

If you had a lobe going bad, you wouldn't even be able to keep up with adjusting that valve. Once the hard surface is gone it goes real fast.

Are your rockers new? Might have a bad rocker bearing

The rockers seem to be in decent shape. I took them apart when I had them milled and I kept the sets in their original locations.
It's bothering me. I am pretty good with this stuff but this one has me stumped so far.
Otherwise it is running stronger than ever! Part throttle power is crazy now.

I'd get your injector's pop tested. Do you have any old injectors laying around by chance?

Better yet, take a long screw driver and put it up to each individual injector and listen to the other end....that way you can hear what cylinder is doing it

I have a set of 40 horse sticks. Maybe I will swap those in to see if the noise go away.

I sounds like a miss, but the exhaust doesn't indicate a miss, and like I said, it is running well.

I don't know, I started my truck today and really listened to it and paid close attention to the vibration of the engine, and it was dead smooth. I think I might just be hearing a little hack from the unequal length exhaust manifold (sick). The engine it definitely hitting harder even at idle. Maybe that's all it is.
I have an exhaust flange, maybe it's time I build my bundle of snakes equal length header...
