intermittent injection pump leak

Postby cucvless383 » Wed Apr 03, 2013 6:52 am

Hi guys, I was looking for some input on a leak my injection pump. It seems to have a small drip of fuel coming from the passenger side of the pump between the head and pump. I can not seem to locate where it coming from. The kicker is that the leak only happens when the truck is cold. Any ideas? Should I be looking into a rebuild?

Most likely the KSB cover on the back side of the pump. It seals with an o-ring, but you need to pull the pump to fix it. Make sure that's where it's leaking, you'll be pissed if you pull the pump, replace the o-ring and it still leaks. Resealing the whole thing while it's off is the way to go.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Mine has been leaking in the same place for around a year and a half. Starting to get a little worse now. Used to stop when getting warm, now it seems to do it at all times. Pump must be getting weak as well because when it gets good and warm or after pulling a heavy load for a while, the idle drops really low. It is also having a harder time starting after sitting for multiple days. Just a few turn overs instead of just on the bump of the key. I have put the LPLP on already and the starting got better but still not ideal.

Time to get a rebuilt pump as soon as I can fit it in the budget! So many things to do......... Still have a few parts to get so I can put my 4" exhaust and HE351CW turbo on......
