surging in overdrive

Postby Theredbeast » Wed Apr 10, 2013 10:05 am

why does my truck surge in overdrive locked converter. its only in overdrive locked. OTHER than too much timing which could still quite possibly be the issue, what could it be? It also takes a while to get to full boost. 45-46 is my max and it will ride at 38-40 and then slowly rise to 45

What transmission do you have? Stock 1st Gen autos didn't have lock up.

What rpm does it do this at? Under what kind of load? Ive drivin manuals with larger than stock chargers, and when slightly lugged in any gear, the would surge. If down shifted to bring the rpm up the surging would stop. Just a thought.

It's timing...... from 1st hand experience, timing will cause surge at too low of an rpm. Almost feels like a hesitation/miss right?

A lockup converter and a clutch put the same effect and load on the engine. Stackx2's first gen did this when lugged in fifth gear, pods, and my current twins. My cousins 04' with a industrial injection 66, electronic tuning, and lugged with a enclosed sled trailer would do this as well.

Both were when the truck was loaded down low, and both had the timing advanced, weather I be mechanically or by a electronic box. They both learned how to drive around the problem. Try not to lug down as much and see if it helps, or back your timing off. But what fun is that. :D
