A lockup converter and a clutch put the same effect and load on the engine. Stackx2's first gen did this when lugged in fifth gear, pods, and my current twins. My cousins 04' with a industrial injection 66, electronic tuning, and lugged with a enclosed sled trailer would do this as well.
Both were when the truck was loaded down low, and both had the timing advanced, weather I be mechanically or by a electronic box. They both learned how to drive around the problem. Try not to lug down as much and see if it helps, or back your timing off. But what fun is that.
