idle speed rises when braking! (governor weights moving?)

Postby Oskar » Sat Nov 09, 2013 4:47 pm

Hi, i noticed a strange thing recently, when i push the brake and the truck slows, the engine speed rises approx. 100 rpm.
even if i'm rolling very slowly in 1'st gear, and make a quick stop this will occur, as soon as the truck stops, the rpm's return to normal, this happens both in gear and in neutral, and when i reverse and brake, the rpm's drop about the same, this phenomen seems to be created of the inertia force, probably acting on the governor weights in the pump, as it is longitudally mounted, but is there anybody else out there that has noticed it?

Ya know..............that's possible.

I've noticed the same thing and just gave up caring. But that honestly makes sense.

Yeah, my truck does it a lot. I haven't paid attention backing up or anything, but as I'm slowing down for a stoplight it will have the truck at the perfect idle, minimal rattles in the cab and it's just bliss. Then once the truck fully stops and reloads the rear suspension, the idle will drop down just enough to cause the symphony of rattles I'm so used to hearing in my cab.

ok, good! then i know that my pump isn't freak'n out!
they should have mounted it the other way, like in a Volvo D24 diesel : Image

then the rpm's would drop when braking forward.
