Running the engine with no lift pump?

The IP alone should definitely be able to draw enough fuel to idle along just fine, shouldn't it?

Begle1,

FWIW, I remember reading on TDR and Pastor Bob wrote something about the VE is designed to push way more than it's designed to pull; hence the need for the lift pump.

But if I were to just want to test my engine to make sure that it could idle, it shouldn't have any problems with pulling fuel directly into the injection pump from a gas can should it?

And I also hear stories about bad lift pumps causing performance issues over 50 MPH...

I read somewhere that our IP's are capable of siphoning fuel from the tank if a lift pump goes bad, making it hard to diagnose. I would imagine that if the IP is capable of that, then a gravity feed setup would be good enough to allow the truck to idle, but I'm no expert.

when my lp went bad with the larger injectors during a full throttle run it would cut out really bad and if released to idle it would die. For normal driving and idle quality the pump bein out didnt effect anything
