If you're after an upgrade to support mild injectors and plan on going with the piston pump, skip the typical piston lift-pump from Cummins that we normally go for and go straight to a 2nd gen piston pump.
In addition to providing a higher output pressure, the 2nd gen pump also sports a much larger piston that provides a much higher
volume
2nd gen on the left compared to that we would install otherwise ~
Outwardly, the two appear the same. The difference in piston bore is made up by a bushing (That we normally get on the left) ~
NOTE; the 2nd gen version puts out a pressure that would threaten the VE's internal seals, therefore, a bypass style FP regulator is required and is best applied between the fuel filter and IP. Set it to maintain 15psig with the engine free-revving to 2500rpm.
Hope this helps.
