VE fuel pressure capabilities

Postby TRACTJDS0428 » Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:15 pm

Ive heard some numbers. Im looking for facts. What kind of pressure can you put to a VE without pumping the crank case full of fuel? Ive got a 93 with stock VE. I have an Airdog II 165gph pump to put on it to support 5x14 injectors and a 60/68 Borg Warner turbo. Ive been told if you pull the pump and re seal it and loc tite the shaft seal you can push 18 psi safely. I know the pump experts are on here, so looking for some advice before I hook up my airdog. What are guys running on stock pumps? What modifications hold what psi?

I've ran 18psi for a while, running 15-16 right now. I've ran 30psi on accident, and it held for 25 miles, 35 minutes of run time. You should be able to pull the pump, and use green LocTite to hold the seal, as it is a weeping type, gets down into the seal I guess. I think BC has used it before, if not, pull just the front seal and use red LocTite on a new seal. You should be fine running a LocTite'd front seal and 18psi.

I've ran 15 psi for a few years now. But my pump is relatively new. How much power do you think you gain by bumping the fuel pressure 3 psi? How much extra flow is realized?

15psi. To be extra safe, 12psi.

I really hope this 165gph pump will maintain volume and hold the psi. Dont know. Havent ever run one. My truck has close to 200k on it. The pump has never been touched that I know of. 12 psi should be safe? Or do I need pull it and re seal it? Then 12 psi should be completely safe. Im not looking to run high psi if the pump will keep up. Looking for a starting point.

You won't drop the air dog psi at all.... 12psi would be fine.

My stock/OEM IP had a little over 250,000 miles on it when I replaced it IIRC. I'd been running up to 18psig supply pressure for some time with no issues. I've since installed a NOS IP and did use the green lock-tite stuff on it (I did not pull the seal). Been doing just fine with 18psig as far as I know. :)

Scheid 6x16s would pull the Walbro 392(?) from 18 down to 16. The flow-hone hogged-out 5x18s do the same. You should be good with Airdog I reckon (no 1st-hand experience with one).

Thank you for the info! Hopefully someone will jump in with some Airdog info. Sounds like I should be ok running 12-15 psi. I think im gonna start around 12 and see how it acts. Any predictions what kinda hp numbers I will be looking at?
