Questions on how to go about going bigger

Postby 6LCummins » Fri Nov 23, 2007 6:45 pm

So im in the middle stage of thinking of what to do next on my truck. I have a 90 VE out of a Case 5140, been bored over .040, pumps turned up alot, not sure on timing, have 190s, hx35 with a 14CM housing and a bighead waste gate. I do not have an intercooler and i can only get the EGTs up to 1225 trying. I'm not sure if i have a 3K in it or not but i have one sitting here waiting for it when i can get it installed. I can build about 38-40 PSI of boost right now. I'm looking at getting bigger injectors and a bigger turbo since i have a 1000FT LBS goal with this motor. So since this is the 1st gen site i was wondering what advice i can get from you guys on where to go next. I was thinking some custom EDM'ed 300s if not bigger and a S300 would work well for me and probably force me to get an IC. What do you guys think??? Oh and with stock injectors and turbo i laid down 502FT LBS as a base.

Good injectors tuning and the right turbo will get you to your goal.

At the moment i run a 64-71 s300, ddp stage4 sticks, non ic with a 3.5" crossover pipe, bumped timing, no afc, maxed fuel screw, holley blue pump with bypass regulator, 3/4 fuel pick up with 1/2" fuel lines, frieghtliner fuel filter setup. 2 nozzle nx nitrous and snow stage 2 w/m. not sure what kinda power but 4x4 burnouts and 2wd 5th gear burnouts from 70mph are no problem. oh yeah also a custom pulling dual disk and 3.54 gears.
92 w250, NV4500, D80, maxed pump, AFC gone, extended fuel screw, more to come.

When you mention your EGT, thats pre turbo, right? Off topic, but if this is the setup in your V30, what motor mounts, radiator, etc did you use? I have a 90 V30 SRW I'm putting a 92 Cummins w/ NV4500 into.

Well im not going to be using any Nitrous on my truck. Just dont like it and i do not have an AFC in stock form. Im very unsure of the timing on this motor as it was already tweaked some b4 i got it. My pump is very near runaway at the present time and i have 3 inch piping to the turbo non IC. If i went wit h an S300 id just use the 4 inch piping i have. Im not looking to go all out on this motor but think i have a reasonable goal in mind for it. Those sound similar to wat i wanna run on my motor but will i need to upgrade my fuel system like you did if im only go to 1000Ft Lbs??? Is there a spring that will make these motors spin 4K??? mine already runs up over 3K and i havent put my 3K GSK in yet. As far as a dual disc, it wont be hard for me to get ahold of one of those and im also going to be runnin either a 3.73 or 4.11 in this truck very soon.

As far as if its in my V30, yes its in my 88 Chevy. i have custom made motor mounts, stock radiator from a Chevy. I have about 2.5 inches between the radiator and the front pulley on my motor. My EGTs are pre-turbo, the only way i know they should be done. At idle im lucky to see over 325* in the manifold. the cross member that is under the big blocks was taken out to put this motor in and im utilizing the stock tranny cross member with alot of fabrication to the tranny mount setup. You will have to custom make ur radiator hoses for it as there are none out there that will work. I have an intake horn off a FL70 which wasn't too much money and it flows very well. And if your needin a clutch i do highly recommend ValAir for cost and quality reasons.

I was asking about the EGT's because I figured you could get it hotter with the injectors/mods you have, wanted to make sure you weren't trying to read them in the downpipe. You mention going to 3.73 or 4.10 gears, do you have 4.56's now? That could be why you can't get the truck any hotter, less load on it?

I have 3.73 in the rear end and 3.54 in the front end. Im looking to get both axles to have the same gears. The reason why there are 2 different sizes is i grenaded the original rear end that had 3.54 gears in it. So im running 36.5 inch tires and 3.73 in the rear end and have to work to get it that hot.

Were those factory Chevy axles in the crew cab w/ 3.54? I have 4.10's in mine and can't find any place that makes 3.54 gears for a 14 bolt. I was considering putting a dodge dana 70 in or just using 3.73's, as I have 315/75-16's on it.

So you have a dually rear then? Or did you swap in a srw rear from a different truck? Your sig says srw/drw.

I have a V30 Crew cab long box DRW i since have converted it to a SRW. Put SRW hubs up front and took off the dually fenders. my rear tires stick out farther than the front now and i kinda like the raked stance she has.
