Intercooling a a stock 90 Non Intercooled truck

Postby JeffTheMarine » Mon May 26, 2014 10:19 am

I am looking for some options into intercooling my truck. I have a 90 Non intercooled D250. I am not wanting to change to the intercooled style grill. I plan to add a Snow water methanol injection system regardless. Should that be enough with a 4inch straight pipe exhaust to keep it cool or am I going to need something else like an air to air intercooler? I have looked at some of the stuff to add a air to water setup and honestly it seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. I also have the ability to make my own crossover tube and was thinking of making a full 3 inch crossover with bungs welded for the injection and my boost gauge. If I run a 4inch exhaust and a full 3inch crossover will that be enough for pulling to keep it cool? Trailers and such. I don't plan to do any sled pulling at all.

It solely depends on your fueling and air mods....

What turbo and injectors do you plan on running? How much do you plan on turning up the pump?

Well I was thinking of running a 54mm H1c that came on the intercooled trucks along with the 18.5cm or possibly a 16cm exhaust housing. I kind of figured the stock non ic larger injectors would be enough for what I am wanting. All in all somewhere around 300 or 350hp is what I was thinking. The main thing is I don't want to change the grill because that is my favorite style of grill for this body style of truck.

At 300-350 hp with an H1C, you'll need an intercooler.

Go with a 2nd gen or power stroke intercooler and you can keep your factory grill.

If you don't mind getting rid of your ac condensing coil its very easy to install a first gen intercooler with no cutting up of that style grill.
