Source for rear stock tailpipe section

Postby 888 » Wed Jun 11, 2014 5:00 am

The rearmost part of my exhaust system broke at the clamp prior to the rear axle (over axle and tailpipe section) so I have removed it.

Is there anywhere you guys have found to find the correct diameter exhaust section for our trucks?

The last place I took my 92 welded on a pipe for a gas truck, the diameter was way too small. He insisted it was correct but there was no way it was the right one. I do have the one that came off as a reference for what should be reinstalled and can have one custom bent but if I can find one online, I'll install it myself.

TIA

Joe

Why not just replace it with a 4" system? I know Auto zone and a few others were able to get them though.

the diamond eye system while its 4 inch vs the factory 3 inch has the same exit profile. maybe just pick up the tail pipe section if you dont want to replace the whole deal...any good exhaust shop can mate the two sizes pretty seamlessly

They have a 3" Walker for the Cummins, mine is at least a 4". I suspect that's what the guy uptown installed. I don't think any of my CTD's had a 3" exhaust.

So 3" was factory?

3" was factory. If you have a 4" then you have an aftermarket exhaust.

Talk to Eric, (rccummins\Hungry diesel) he might be able to hook you up.

All Cummins trucks until 03 had 3 inch exhaust. The tips on some were flared out to 3.5 if memory serves me right.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to measure the pipe on the truck (it's 40 miles away at the shop uptown for more axle seal leakage issues) but looking at 3" on a scale here at work, what I have is probably 4" diameter end to end with a slightly larger tip added on.

The exhaust systems on all of my trucks have been roughly equal to the diameter of the downpipe in the engine compartment and I thought at least two of them were original because they were one owner trucks and had some age to them.

Hmmm, learn something every day.

This is a picture of a 4" down pipe ( I don't have the picture of the 3" and I believe I scrapped it.)
