What Will This Hurt?????

Postby CumminsPride » Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:24 pm

Well I had swapped out my home ground pin a while back for a buddy's stocker and he doesn't want to give it back. This left me with no choice but to grind a new one. Today while home at lunch I decided to do just that and had what I thought to be a GENIUS IDEA! But not too sure of it's longevity(that's why I am starting this thread). What if I remove the pin from the diaphram and use just the rubber to seal the pump top, then proceed to plug the boost reference line and the block?? This will ensure full fuel correct?? Will it damage the IP?? Will the pin fall into the hole where the fuel cone was??

I think doing that would cause the little pin to come out too far and leak fuel into the AFC housing; the fuel would then leak out the back vent in the housing. Removing the AFC lever would do the same thing for power.

ya just remove the afc lever and you will have fuel fuel or go to your local pump guy and get an agraculture pump top

I did that same thing but how do you fix the leaking from the vent on the afc housing.

well im geussing you punch the afc lever out, what i did was just break the tab off, and that wont cause it to leak, i think your going to JB weld it on the out side so it will stop leaking

Well I know that it will leak! Just had to try! I also believe that that vent fitting should back out of the housing. I think it can be tapped and plugged, then reinserted. At least I hope so.

Yes the vent backs right out with a 17mm deepwell and a 6" extension!!! You can tap the inside with a 6-32 tap(without predrilling). I used a electrical outlet cover screw with a dab of The Right Stuff inserted before the screw. Also used The Right Stuff to make a gasket for the top of the housing. Plugged the boost port with a schrader valve for future testing!!

So I had to road test the beast and this was fun at first. After about 5 minutes of romping I decided to do a boosted launch at 10psi and she decided to just rev  . Trans is shot. Now I have very spongy forward gears and a good reverse. Oh well I knew this day would come.

my tranny has gotten so bad that I cant even get half throttle from a dead stop without the tranny slipping. Even cruising at 60mph abd I nail it will slip in 3rd. But soon I will be getting my tranny rebuilt or put the 47rh in.

Where are you located Hassy? I just talked to a guy here about mine and he suggested building a full race 727. He might have some good insight.

Make sure your local guy knows diesels and diesel transmissions. The torque curve is totally different, and thus are the internals needed to transfer the torque to the ground. Most gasser trannies have a HIGHER than stock stall speed. Stock stall speed for the diesel is already 200rpm too high.
