Medium locktite or RTV on cover bolts ?

Postby jethro » Thu Aug 28, 2014 9:51 pm

About to torque bolts on the front engine cover after KDP fix. Noticed some guides suggest RTV on bolt threads-
other say locktite. I have never used RTV on bolt threads for anti-backout. I have been using medium locktite
so far......

Opinions ??????

Locktite.

Rtv has more give to it...either one would work.

Loctite x2

FWIW that ultra grey silicone is some ridged schit when it sets up,I could see it retaining a bolt.

OK- I will go with the medium locktite.
I did not know the grey RTV was firmer than the other colors..... that might be usefull to know....
Thanks for the replies....

I never use Loctite or sealant on the bolts and never have any problems.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I loctite'd my cover bolts just as I did the case bolts. I used a weaker compound, but cleaned and primed each hole just as I did the case threads. I've had some very bad luck in the past with bolts coming loose. I think I went a little over kill though.
