2nd gen. head

Postby Mike T. » Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:00 pm

I've heard that 94-97 12 valve heads flow better. Just wondering if there would be any issues putting one on a 1st gen. I'm also wondering why they flow better.

Thanks
Mike

I don't really know if it's true, it was something I'd heard and I thought maybe someone would know for sure.

From what I've heard/read, about 4-5% more. That would be 6-7 cfm.

So if some one, with a non intercooled (9mm) developed a failing cracked head..............It might be wiser to search for a 2nt gen, 12v head instead of intercooled (7mm) first gen head?????????????????

What else would be different. Combustion chamber CC would be the same between the two........FLAT(0 cc)

Is the head gasket the same between the two.......................

Now all I need is my head to crack so I have an excuse to buy a better flowing head, bigger injectors, arp head studs, and a cometic head gasket. ( and some money to pay for all that stuff)
Sold 91 now-intercooled W250, 388WHP 923WTQ on #2 only 423WHP 968WTQ on meth 0% correction.

Ya know...they make sleeves to use upgraded injectors in our heads. :thumright:

Im not even waiting though... As soon as I find the right deal on a head Im gonna start gathering it, studs, gasket, etc. Id like to see what my truck is capable of lol. I know of 48lbs of boost available.

Randy -be careful with 48psi if you still have the original old style head gasket- it isnt known for lingevity past about 30-35psi.

I had a crack in my head on my nonIC 91. Guy at the machine shop said he had seen guys run cracks twice the size of mine in Case loaders and such with no issues, so I ran mine as it was. As long as oil, water, and cumbustion gasses stay where they belong......

I ran it to 48 once and my jaw dropped when i saw that. Its gated to 40 now, gonna get it to 36 or so when I upgrade it and everything. Intercooling should help drop that figure a little too.
