injector swap

Postby etrain92 » Tue Dec 09, 2014 8:08 pm

I have an 89 non intercooled heads cracked, can get a head off a 94 to 98. I know I need the 94 to 98 injectors but will my ve pump run those injectors? Any input would be appreciated

You'll need 1st gen injectors in the late 91 to 93 years. The injector body fittings (bigger) are different in 94 to early 98.

The head will work, but there is a boss that needs drilled and tapped for the throttle linkage bracket. BC has a pic floating around somewhere. 7mm VE injectors are what you need or have someone turn your 9mm nozzles down. The top of the injector is not the same between VE and p pump. Your lines won't fit. Other things are different with the injector....but that is what will keep them from physically going together.

 lucky me
Didn't know about that boss tho......

FWIW if you happen up on some 210 horse injectors for a good price, but them and use the tips. Swap them on some core 1stgen bodies and you'll have a nice injector. Of course you'll need them pop tested....Eric at the hungry diesel could have them flow honed as well and it'll make a kick ass injector for work and some play.

You need marine 370s, or Bosch 190s, or POD's (marine 370s are awesome in a non i/c truck). 91-93 injectors will work, but have the wrong spray angle.

People run non I/c Pistons in innercooled applications all the time especially when lots of timing is involved. There shouldn't be any real issues tho....right.

You can.... but they are not as clean, efficient, or well.... correct.

Unless one is running MASSIVE amounts of timing, there is no reason to change the spray angle 10 degrees.

We have had a lot of customers switch from the 145 angle to the proper 155 angle in the non i/c trucks and all of them claim a more responsive, cleaner burning engine.

Spraying too far in the bowl, or outside the bowl....both misses the energy point of the piston bowl.

My 91 is running 370's, and they work amazingly well and burn pretty darn clean. I recommend them for any mild NON-IC truck ;)
