truck died wont restart

Postby hassy21 » Sun Dec 28, 2014 3:07 pm

Was driving down the road and without any warning signs it just died and won't restart. The truck has power and cranks over fine. It has power to fuel sensor but to the ksb it only got power for a second. Put a jumper from sensor to ksb but still not wanting to start. Is there a way to test the ksb or see how it works. Is there something else that could be causing problem that I could check besides replacing pump. Truck was not under power that's why I don't think it is pump. Any help is appreciated.

KSB has nothing to do with it starting. Crack an injection line and see if it is squirting.

As RCCUMMIS89 stated check for fuel at injector. No fuel -> check for fuel at filter-> air or no fuel check for cracked or loose lines to lift pump (will not draw fuel if their is a leak)
If you have good fuel at filter but none at pump-> change filter,
If you have fuel at inlet of pump but none at injector -> check shut off solenoid for power and that it works, ohm it out to check for open or shorts.
If lines look good to lift pump and no fuel at filter then you need a lift pump.

If it is upstream of the filter my experience with my skidloader is that it would suck down the filter some and have lower and lower power over the course of a minute until it exhausted fuel. It has a B series Cummins in it too. We had to replace the line from the tank to the pump.

If you keep working your way back you will find your issue. Cracking an injector and checking at the filter purge vent are a couple quick spots to get the problem located.

Wires have been known to wighle loose on the FSS and cause them to die. Did it stumble or shut down like you turned the key off?

Truck just shut down like I turned key off was going about 50 when it happened. Have had the problem before with the two wires at injection pump but solved that issue

engine too simple to be anything but fuel supply related- (?)
Filters and maybe air leaks between tank and lift pump maybe
maybe big chunk of debris stuck over inlet tube in tank.
