1989 dodge w350 missing under load

Postby manostihl » Wed Jan 21, 2015 12:56 am

my 1989 w350 just started missing under load or rather when chugging it and short shifting you can hear it and it shakes, but when you rev it out in neutral or its idling it seems to run just fine. anyone have any ideas? i dont know how many miles are on the motor so injectors could be a suspect but the IP is new. lift pump maybe also?

I'd start by changing the fuel filter.

my truck only has a water separator on it thats how i bought it and i changed it not too long ago and i drained it twice yesterday. should it have another filter on it? the fuel is definately fresh as this truck is my daily driver and i regularly treat the fuel with the power service winter additive

There is only one filter element on our trucks, it is a dual purpose unit...fuel filter AND water separator.

Probably got a sticky injector or dv....only thing I can think of...I doubt throwing filters at it wl do much. Does the miss increase its harshness as the RPM's increase?

Air, starving for fuel, fss, injector... can all cause a miss at high rpm.

Is it smoking white when it misses?

FSS is short for Fuel Shutdown Solenoid. If you look at the side of your injection pump, you'll see it, has 2 wires coming off of it. A bad connection, corroded wires, etc will cause it to randomly close, shutting off the fuel.

No it hazes like normal cold . And one it warms up it runs clean at an idle. It started missing like this when it was real cold and i didnt have her plugged in but it would warm up at a high idle and smooth out. I always let my truck run and warm up at the very least 10 mins. Also whenever i took it down the expressway at 65 as soon as i got off it would start smoking and missing. Then it would clear up after the truck sat and cooled off.

O ok my solenoid is junk and shuts the truck off with the key when it feels like it i use the stop bar alot to shut it off although it just recently started workin ok hmmmmmmm. I know the wires and connections are good i tested them
