Air Filter Testing....

Postby thrashingcows » Fri Jan 23, 2015 2:54 pm

This is an old thread over on Diesel Bombers...but I could not find reference to it in our archives. Very interesting information, and confirms my aversion to the K&N type air filters. ;)

Excellent find. Thanks for sharing.

I had an oil analysis expert tell me that he has no trouble telling which trucks run oiled filters. The silicon levels in the oil sample are way higher than a truck with a paper filter. Now with an oiled filter will my engine wear out at 500k instead of 1 million miles? I don't know, the truck will be rusted out by 400k miles. I still try to avoid them.

Yea, once one puts a new turbo on and uses a quality donaldson's bhaf..... it is very evident. After thousands and thousands of miles my turbo blades look absolutely brand new. As does the intake assembly.

I've poured water and mud out of my filter and on the inside of the filter they are still white.

I'm a commercial truck driver, and I always make reference to what we use in our trucks....Paper filters. If the K&N style filters were so great, then why has the commercial trucking industry not adopted them?? ;)

Too much time to clean them, time is money!

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
