copper spray-a-gasket question

Postby jethro » Fri Jan 23, 2015 8:52 pm

Still working on bottom tapping the block for the a1 studs- that is coming along. may use some of the ultra-copper
aerosol spray from permatex. I have only used it once.
Do you normaly put it on both the deck and the head....... ?
and- does it hurt to let the film harden before installing the head on------ or do you want to try to do it quickly while it is still
unhardened. ????? I am wondering that since it is a thin film- does it matter ?

Any thoughts there ?

We used this last time on the tractor. We sprayed both sides of the gasket. Let it get tacky and install.

When I put my rebuilt head on I o-ringed the block, and sprayed the copper gasket on block and head surfaces and lightly on gasket. then installed while was wet/tacky. Torqued OEM bolts to 135lb/ft and it's been holding good since.

I've never used it on a diesel but we use to always use it on 4cyl and 6cyl engines

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the spray-gasket stuff? I always insalled the HG dry, per the book. Never dug into any other engine that far.....

Never used it on any engine other than. My suzuki 230 quad sport. I would reuse the mls head gasket countless number of times with copper coat on both side. Hang it by a bungee cord spray both sides wait till tacky and install.

Might not see a use on these engines. The tractor was having head gasket issues and was trying to limp it along. Had too much crush on the fire rings, tried adding the copper coat to give more space for the fire rings and help hold the gasket in.
