grid heater delete question

Postby jethro » Mon Feb 09, 2015 11:08 pm

OK- I am paint stripping, buffing/blasting my intake cover, grid heater and intake horn.
I removed the grid heater out of the housing. - and I am asking my self: Self- why do I need this funny hollow square spacer ???? noting that the horn bolt pattern is the same and can bolt directly down to the intake cover ............
My engine is going into a ford- not a dodge- so I can adjust my air pipes where ever I want (or where ever they will fit)
any need to even use the spacer ?

Not really, and it can save space between there and the hood. You might not like it if you are in a part of the country where it gets cold and have no grids though. ;)

Meh, that's what the block heater is for. I never wait for the grid heater, even in -40. They only come on for a few seconds if fully heated by the block heater, which is well above freezing temps.

except for the times you don't have a place to plug it in like I do (work).....I had to start mine at -22 with grid heaters and it was a pissed off truck for about 10 minutes before it got heat in it.

Thanks PT and others-
I live in Florida- Not super cold here. Only about 10 or less freezing days a year (that's a cold year)

Once I got the intake cover paint stripped- it is really pitted from corrosion on one end- must have had mud or wet pine needles on it or something.
I picked up a piece of 3/4 6061 and am making a new "heavy duty" one. Couldn't bear to put that eaten up looking thing back on.
