injector crush washers

Postby jethro » Tue Feb 10, 2015 8:45 pm

Have my injectors out (stock) - have to get them tested before they go back in.
I want to remove the copper crush washers off the end. They seem to be stuck on a little.
How do you get them to release without bending or distorting them. I will anneal them and reuse them
if I can keep from tearing them up.
Any practical thoughts ?????

I always grab them with pliers and twist them off....I don't think I damage them but I've never tried to save them. I know I've heard people that has reused them with good results but for 20 bucks I figure it wasn't worth the risk.

I always use a sharp knife and push it between the washer and injector to separate them. Once they move they are pretty easy to remove.

Fwiw I've reused some on 3 different sets, seems I can never remember to purchase some more. The only thing that ever gives me problems are the return line copper seals. They always seem to leak a little till they're tightened down in the same spot they were.
If you have the time to wait on them then get them.

Runs $10-20 for a washer set. On my personal truck.... I've re used all of the washers about a dozen times. The super thin "215" washers should be replaced though.

the ones on the end of the injectors look to be about .050 thick-
I will try a single edge razor blade in the crack.
Don't see any problem re-using them as long as you anneal them. (get red-hot-- quench in cold water while red hot--
that brings them back to dead soft and lets them conform to the texture of what ever they are up against and seal.
All ways do aircraft spark plug washers that way.
Only issue is that they might get gradually thinner over many anneal- cycles......
