Fluidampr

Postby Remps » Mon Feb 16, 2015 9:37 am

Any reason a 2nd gen fluidampr won't work on a 1990 1st gen motor? I would like to retain the 2nd gen crank sensor on the 1990. The motor from my D250 is going in my 2nd gen in a couple months.

They'll work.... I've heard of most running into fan clearance issues and you'll need to re locate or make a new bracket for your cps.

You mean clearance issues with a 2nd gen damper and a n/ic fan? I will be using all the 2nd gen accessories, although I also have a ic fan I could use. Not sure if there is any difference between those two fans.

I've never ran one..... I think BC847 does though..... But i think all 1st gen fans have to be spaced out.

I had to space out my fan when i installed it yup.

I think the same damper is used for 1st and 2nd gens, see the link below.

Ok, researched the fan spacing, should be no big deal.

I have run the same Fluidampr on an 89 motor, and my current 93 motor. When I was running iton my 89 Non-IC motor I had no fan clearance issues. Before I put on the Fluidampr I had to replace the clutch and fan, since the original 89 units were bent and failing...so I swapped to a 2nd Gen clutch and fan. When I installed the new Fluidampr there was about 1/4-3/8" clearance between the fan blades and dampr.

Now when I installed the same unit on my 93 IC motor...all original...I had to relocate the CPS...it came with a bracket relocation kit. And had to add a good 1/4 spacer behind the clutch fan hub to move it out. Even then I still got a few "ting ting" from the fan at higher RPM's. I eventually had to trim back one or two fan blades to make sure it wasn't making contact with the fluidampr.

Yup, sounds like I will have to just play it by ear with the fan. I hope my 90 has as much clearance as your 89.
