injector suggestions

Postby jethro » Wed Feb 18, 2015 11:25 pm

having my 22 year old bosh injectors tested. I suspect the springs will be weak........
I am so far stock 160 hp- 3200 gov spring (will have once installed)- just did A1 head studs and new head gasket. H1C (so far)
Want to maximize mileage- don't really THINK I need to raise HP much- I think Id be ok
with 200-250. Appears that most injectors raise at least 50 HP. ( I would think that would be OK)
From what I have read - going to more (but smaller) nozzle holes (7?)makes a better spray pattern - which
may increase mileage by 1 or 2 mpg. I just don't want to make it worse !!!! Don't need any smoke (AKA-wasted fuel)

Any suggestions on an injector that fits that bill ?

Also just about to finish my new intake cover. The old one had 2 sensor ports on top. Since its going into a ford-
I may not need those holes (should I tap a place for them just in case???)
Should I tap a hole in the top to put a manifold/boost pressure sensor ? (is that were it should read from ?)

Thanks !

It takes a lot of work to get a set of 7 holers to work right. I'm one of the few who have. A better choice would be something in the 5X.010 to 5X.012 range. If your stock injectors are rebuildable, I'd just have those flow honed. Your choice will depend on what you are using the truck for, a work truck or a daily driver.
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.

Yup flow honed 6x.009's should be capable of 300 rwhp easy with the pump turned all the way up. Should meet your goals with fuel screw to spare.

Stock injectors can make 300hp. I made 414 with flow honed stockers.

If you are looking for 220-250hp, there is zero need in going larger than stock. Either have yours gone through (if they are in good shape), or go with a set of 5x10.5 or go with another set of 6x9 or 6x10 injectors.

414 with flow honed 6x9's? That is impressive!

Flow honing matched with "small" injectors makes a ton of peak tq, netting in a large hp number.

When I go with larger set ups, I don't actually dyno much higher, but I get a much longer power band.

Update-
There turned out to be a place here in town that tested mine. All of the springs were fine- but 5/6 tips were toast.
They had new tips in stock. Got them all cleaned and new tips for a little over 200$.
REALLY glad I didn't blow off that check ! They looked really encrusted with carbon on the ends....

I bet they would have gotten rotten gas mileage like they were.
