Randomly cutting off

Postby 12vcummins89 » Sat Mar 07, 2015 11:42 am

I have a 89' cummins that will randomly cut itself off, it's a automatic. It only does it at low speeds and sometimes when I go to stop it will start idling down like its about to cut off "you can feel it starting to jump" but if you catch it at the right time and give it some throttle it will stay on. If it does cut off you have to give it a minute or two before you start it again or it will make a awful grinding noise (when it does cut off I put it into neutral befor trying to crank it back on) any help? Anyone else have this problem? Anyone I ask they say they haven't ever heard of one doing that.

What is grinding? The starter or the engine?
