Power woes....

Postby Hansen01 » Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:54 pm

Ok, sooo, as i was putting my truck back together i ordered a new set of nozzles for my injectors threw The Hungry Diesel. I had them put together and then i put them in. About a year after i put them in the truck was finally road worthy and all i could get out of it was about 30lbs of boost with my he351 cw, and the pump turned up. After turning the pump up to near runaway, screwing all the screws in, making sure that the AFC pin slides, making sure the wastegate is closed tight, changing some intercooler pipe routing, fuel filter, AFC hose, i am still at 34lbs of boost. I send them back to Eric and he flow tested them, and they checked out good at 73lpm or so, so i know they are good, but what gives?

Lift pump? Fuel supply lines? Suction screen in the tank?

Is it still smoking when is maxed on boost?

It smokes very little at 30lbs mostly just a haze, fuel pressure gauge says between 10-12psi at all times

I forgot, was this the same injection pump? Was anything else changed?

Stock intercooled injectors will make 30ish psi.

Same pump, but it was rebuilt probably less than 10000 miles ago, nothing was done to it when the truck was down other than a small timing bump

Also for everyone else, it runs good, it's just it has what feels like the same power as before the nozzles, and roughly the same or less boost than before, still has a second gen intercooler in it, that was fixed and leak checked before install

Bumping the timing will lower boost some, and EGT'S, but IMO it should run a little stronger. But if you haven't driven it in quite a while your "seat of the pants meter" could be off a little too. Maybe bump the timing more or less to see how much it changes?

I could retard it some since I have yet to do that, but no more advance because it's too the head, RCCUMMINS said when he had the same setup he was making close to 60 and I stayed the same ( boost wise) :x lol if that's all its ever gonna get they need to be like 5x18s then lol

I did get new seats and new pants since last time tho Pete

My HE351 with 370s only does 36psi. I KNOW the wastegate isn't wired as tight as it should be. When you say yours is closed tight, HOW is it keeping closed?

Haha yea I know, when I first wired it up a couple years ago I didn't wire it to the engine, and everytime the engine twisted it got loose, I felt really dumb lol

It is a fueling issue. It should literally black out the highway at 30psi, even 40 or 50 psi. Those injectors are fairly big.

What are you seeing for egts?

1300-1350 MAX,and you really gotta hold it there to get that hot.
I can't hardly believe it would be in the pump, but can anyone think of anything I could check in that area before I gotta take it off and get it looked at?

Is this have an i/c? Those are really hot egt for 30psi, you shouldn't be seeing those until you are up past 40 with a 351cw
