Rough idle after new ve pump install.

Postby trucker_dad » Tue May 12, 2015 4:19 am

Iv got a 1990 d350 non intercooled,w/47rh conversion.
After the new pump install,it feels really responsive, tho jumpy and idles rough.
Changed the pump due to fuel leak, durty interiour of it.
Any ideas?

Is it smoky as well? Does it smooth out in the higher rpm?

There isn't any white smoke.
seams real jumpy, like a hyper-active gouverner.

Might be that the return springs in the pump are broken. It'll cause just that.

Was this a new pump, or a used pump that you got from someone?

Air pre lift pump can also cause a surge/rough idle.

Brand new pump. I will try disconnecting the electric boost pump.

Also, I'm going by sound only, I wanted to reduce idle speed.I backed the idle screw back a little bit but the control rod wouldn't allow the motor to idle down. Any internal adjustment?

Break the nuts loose on the throttle rod, and turn the rod either way to extend it or make it shorter.
