fuel cut-off to manual ?

Postby jethro » Sun May 24, 2015 11:19 pm

is there an easy way to convert the electric fuel cut off valve to be activated by a cable control ?
The un-reliability of the electric selenoid is something id like to eliminate somehow .....

search manual shutoff, these engines already have one and just need a cable installed.

Tim, just remove the shut off solenoid, pull the spring and plunger, and reinstall the solenoid. Then you run a cable to the lever on the side of your pump and it's done. It's as easy as that.

Use a good quality well insulated cable to avoid engine noise transmitted into the cab. I plan on trying a well greased throttle cable off one of my old bikes. I had a haywire shutoff once, constant buzzing was pretty annoying.

The "lever" referenced - is that the emergency fuel shut off lever ?????? is the solenoid actually pushing that internally ?
Several years ago I had ordered an expensive looking fuel shut-off cable for my ford tractor. Its a very good looking unit and built
pretty heavy. Might use that. I will use a bike cable on the tractor- :-)

Yup the emergency shutoff lever. The solenoid does not push on it internally, they are two totally different things.

My truck has a cable and it's the only way to sthi off motor.
Wire comes out above the throttle pedal but is up high at the bottom of the steering column and not near my foot which could be dangerous of course.

Comes in handy when your in a 7-11 or the like as I can take the key with me and lock the doors but keep the motor and heater on.
