Water temp?

Postby edeus » Sun Jun 14, 2015 8:43 am

I was wondering temperatures on my -89 CTD, outside temperature effected lot to my trucks running temps.
Original gauge was swinging between second and fifth bar, depending the weather.
So I decided to change the tstat, new one is CNH packed ( I have worked with Maxxum Cases and I had one left)
Head was not machined, I grinded with template that was in tstas package.

Now my gauge is just over the first bar, around 15C outside.
Gauge was not swinging any, whole 25km is shows same temp, is this too low?

I also checked valve clearance and adjusted them, especially exhaust valves had too much.

In my opinion, that's an awesome range for the temp to meet. Hook a small load to the rear and see what it does.

But yesterday I installed new temp gauge and it shows mostly 70C(158), at the city it glimped to 80C(176)

My Fan is electrical controlled manually by on-off switch, I did not use it today, its 12C(53) outside.

I was not happy how that CNH packed tstat worked, engine warmed up very slowly and did not stay in specific range.
Now I have new Stant tstat and after couple miles my engine is running at 80C, its around 10C outside now.
I am happy now, but I will keep eye on that thermometer.
