KSB system? Wiring, 1989

Postby edeus » Fri Jun 19, 2015 1:50 am

I bought my truck with some fire damages under the hood, previous owner has make some wires so it runs.
But Iam not happy with the quality of his wiring so Iam doing some wires again.

I have drove around 2000 miles with KSB not wired and engine runs smooth and there is power.
Now I have KSB wired by relay which is controlled by pump stop solenoid, so it have +12volts when ignition is on.

There is now difference on the engines behavior, I drove it warm with wire on place and tested with wire of and on.
Is my system broke or is something Iam doing wrong?

Here is picture of pump, this is stock from 1989 right?

The 89 KSB requires 12Volts running to it all the time. It is a wax motor, so the 12V heats up the wax and allows the KSb to adjust the timing as it melts.

Not having power running to it will essentially give you a timing advance...like doing the 1/8" timing bump on the IP mount.
