lower water hose

Postby jethro » Mon Jul 27, 2015 11:39 pm

I gave up trying to find a lower hose for the fummins.
I fabricated a stainless steel pipe which will have a short segment of rubber on each end.
Im I remembering correctly that this pipe should have a nipple which connects this lower "hose"
to the water overflow bottle ?
If yes - then I need to add in a 1 inch stainless snout onto the pipe.
PS my pipe looks NOTHING like the one that F-C or De-Stkd sells.... maybe their pictures are inaccurate.....

I take it you are intending to use the Ford surge tank?

Did a little digging.

If you want to use the Ford surge tank, you will have to tie it in. In the 6.0L application, the surge tank feeds into the engine front cover, which ties into the same opening as the lower radiator hose, just before the water pump.

yes 59 .... I am using the ford plastic tank. It has a 1 inch port on the bottom and 1 small ports (1/4 maybe) up on the top edge.
I tried to look up what ford was running these. It appears that on the 6 liter ford engine- the big hose on bottom was running over to the output side of the heater core. and one of the little hoses goes to the lower radiator hose. There was quite a mess of hoses involved with the infamous EGR system. also to the water pump too.

I was thinking to just run the 1 inch hose to the lower rad hose and just ignore the 2 small ports on the ford tank.
I am supposing that it must be sensitive to were the overflow bottle enters the system-----
If that works ok I was just going to weld a 1 inch snout onto my stainless lower hose/pipe.
The lower hose goes directly into the water pump so would that work ?????

You are correct.

I don't think it is too sensitive to where the surge tank feeds the system, as long as it's before the water pump.

6.0L's are a different animal. I have two at work that are problem children...run excellent majority of the time, the other bit...lets just say the cab's are being pulled.
