pump rebuild, now runaway

Postby Deathrod » Tue Sep 22, 2015 5:00 pm

I rebuilt the pump today because it had a rotor head leak. I put it all back together and tried to fire it and got nothing, pulled the pump and noticed the little drive gear key fell out. So by me trying to start it the engine rotated and the pump did a little too. I pinned the engine back at TDC, and rotated the pump back to the factory mark (where it is at TDC). Put the pump back in and now it wants to runaway.

So, could I have messed something up in the rotor area that would cause runaway? Since the pump runs at half eng speed is there a way that its 180 off?, even with motor pinned at TDC and pump lined up with factory mark.

Once it fires it just revs up i have to shut it off immediately. I should say that i didnt rebuild the whole pump just new loctited front, the rotor head seal and a few other outer gaskets, ive gone through the rest recently enough so i didnt touch any throttle related stuff.

Take the top off the pump, and look down and see if the fulcrum lever "ball" is in the slide collar.

That's what I do. I use petroleum jelly to hold the small springs in place, as I have the pump sitting vertically, input shaft pointed down. Works well, and dissolves quickly when all done.

Im having the same problem. I'm building a 4x4 using the motor from my D250. The motor sat for about two years and I just fired it up about a week ago. It's started right up but it just ran off each time.
Thing is I had the pump rebuilt professionally by the guy that Dennis (DennyT) uses. And beings that it's been bout two years since the rebuild I stuck trying to figure it out myself. I keep running into one problem after another....

Well....what happened is the pin between rotor and cam plate got pushed in....caused the rotor to seize and cracked the head. So its f#%ked. Im trying to find another head but cant seem to find on. Anyone know somewhere/ someone with 1?
