Rebuilt pump runaway need help

Postby Collers9640 » Tue Oct 06, 2015 4:42 pm

Ok before I removed my fuel I advanced the timing.
Like an idiot I didn't mark the location of the pump gear. So I installed the pump and put it where I thought it was when I removed it. Now it runs away. I also had the shop throw in a 3200 spring. Now I know the spring could be the problem but I was wondering if it could be the timing causing runaway

Nope! Timing won't cause runaway, it only controls WHEN the fuel goes in, not how much. Sounds like an internal issue, maybe the throttle lever needs to be reindexed.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Yeah I didn't think about reindexing the throttle lever. I'll have to give that a try before I open her up

Does anyone have a pic they can post showing where the throttle should be indexed with a 3200 spring installed

The index should be the same as stock when installing a 366 (3200rpm) governor spring.
