Haha thanks guys. Just for curiosity sake, how loud do your tranny's talk back?

For mpg purposes, what benefit would be realized by changing out every fluid in the driveline with good synthetics?

For me, there is a BIG difference in sluggishness (I think mostly in the gear lubes) from 70 deg to 30 or so. On the same hill with all other variables constant, my EGTs can and have been as much as 100 deg HIGHER on a colder day.

I know there's a TON of variables between winter and summer (fuel, temp, tire pressure etc), but my commute is consistently 70 miles per day (80% highway). There is a consistent 2 to 2.5 mpg loss in the winter.

Most people probably won't care to delve this deep Into something this minute, but I'm a little special Ive been told

I think most of us may have noticed that! Probably most of that loss is the change to winter fuel, more so than extra drag from thicker oil. The winter fuel is cut with kerosene most of the time, and that burns a little hotter because it's a dryer fuel (less lube in it) which could explain the hotter temp.

My egts are higher when starting out in cold weather as well, till the drivetrain warms up. Then egt is lower after a few miles. The slower you go, the more miles it will take to build up drivetrain heat. Google "cummins secrets to better fuel economy" pdf. Numbers an charts an stuff. Apparently driving through denser colder air creates more aerodynamic drag as well. Makes sense, never thought about it till I read it though.

What does it mean when the shifter moves with throttle input when in 5th?

Side to side or front to back? Side to side would most likely be engine mounts, front to back might be a loose main shaft.

Not good, you might want to look into that. Only in 5th? maybe a bad synchro. Bill or Andrew may have a better idea.

Alright, yes only in 5th. I know getrags aren't as serviceable as 4500's, but are they nigh impossible to get parts for too?
