Question about the emergency cut-off lever -

Postby jethro » Tue Jan 05, 2016 6:12 pm

I have never moved the emergency cut-off lever-
is it built like a light switch - that it is internally sprung so that it automatically goes to all the way on or all the way off ?
If I put a cable on it to push or pull I am wondering if I need to also put some kind of over-center gizmo on the cable too ?
Or- if the lever will do it alone......

It is spring loaded to be engine Run. You move it by hand or via a cable to engine OFF and it will return to Run all by itself.

I guess then If I run it by cable- I will have to have some way to make the cable hold it in the "cutoff" position.
I guess it could also be something between the end of the cable and the lever-
have to think about how to do it.....

My 92 is shut down by the emergency lever only.

I have a cable peeking out under the dash to the right of the steering colum.

To shut down I turn the key off and then pull the cable for 2-3 seconds or until the motor has stopped rotating.
When I release the cable it automatically moves back into the Run position but with the motor stopped and key off the engine stays off.

The cable does not need to be held in Close for longer than it takes to kill the motor or be held in Close when truck is not in use.
