Just got my oil sample back...

Postby t_ruffcorn » Wed Jan 06, 2016 8:59 am

I Just received the report on my oil sample and it was less than ideal. They go on a severity scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being classified as criticical, they flagged the level of aluminum at 10ppm citing piston wear assigning it a 4, and noted high sodium, citing coolant consumption or enviornmental contamination. It uses no coolant. So maybe a slight oil cooler weep? I haven't reached the post count to put a picture up of the report but I will once I can. Anyone else oil sample and have some numbers to compare with?

I've come to the point where I honestly don't care about parts wearing out........ they either work, or they are shot. That's how I get through destroying my own engines.

If it doesn't have so much blow by it is constantly puking oil..........screw it. Run the crap out of it.

Try to kill it and you'll find yourself proud that it keeps going. Wanting it to be healthy, and you'll find yourself always sad it is going down hill.

She burns no oil and has next to zero blow by. It runs so hard you'd swear it was a new engine. It's definitely gong to get put through its paces this summer on the strip and pulling track

If it was coolant contamination your bearing wear metals would be high too. But copper, lead and tin are normal with your sample. Other than the pistons, the next source likely is the turbo cool side- think bad bearing there or lack of oil supply or something got coked up?

That is exactly what I thought. Turbo has probably 15,000 miles on it. So almost has to be a piston
