Lift pump/Fuel filter Q

Postby 79Powerwagon » Tue Feb 09, 2016 4:09 pm

I am looking to stick a Cat 1R-0750 fuel filter and some sort of a water seperator on my 79 power wagon with the 93 6BT, bypassing the stock setup. I'm wondering what GPH rating i should be looking for in a water seperator. I will be running a HVLP piston pump setup for the rotary IP.

Thanks

60gph or so will be enough.

Is it recommended to install a filtration setup between lp and ip, or will the piston pump pull fuel through filters ok?

You should put at least a strainer before a piston LP, then the main filter should be between the LP and IP.

Would a water seperator be acceptable between Lp and tank?

Depends on the extent it filters to. I'd guess a 75 - 150 micron inline filter (like on a gasser) would be fine to protect the LP and not have to be replaced every Saturday . But that would be a strainer, instead of a FF/FS.

I'm running a 10 micron Racor water separator between the tank and the LP, why not? I also have 1/2 lines to the LP from a sump, so it draws easier than from a stock pickup.

That's about what I'm thinking on doing. But I have 3/8 lines. Guess I'll see how it goes.

Hey, if all that clouds your brain is internal combustion and waste oil (like yours truly) I'd have stainless strainers starting at 1000 in the filler neck and working down to 1 mic absolute at the cyl head 8)
