Injector swap for MPGs

Postby josh_6bt » Sat Mar 26, 2016 5:22 pm

Hi gents, What would be a better injector for mpgs and power than my 4X13s? Currently getting 18MPG Canadian on a perfect day, drops quite a bit when towing 14-15ish (4-6k lbs).

Are your 4x13s 145 degree injectors?

Assuming the engine was a factory p pumper

Im not sure. They came with a thin washer installed, It only hazes when cold so im assuming the angle is correct.

I'm not the injector guru, but I haven't seen any 4 hole injectors that weren't 155 degree angle. Depending on driving habits you may see slightly better mpg with a 145 degree 6 hole injector. I could be wrong about your sticks though

I thought the same about 4 hole injectors too (155) thats why I was wondering if theres some room on the table for mileage. Im thinking of buyng a new set of 215 injectors, Im shooting for 20+ MPGs

Not sure where your 4x13s came from?

I thought almost all 4 hole injectors were for non intercooled engines and yes the 155 spray angle gets you outside of the 145 degree bowl and looses some major fuel economy. I would call Power Driven diesel for some of the correct spray angle injectors, should see some serious improvement.

I bought these from a shop in Canada. All they could tell me was that they are +40HP injectors. I did a little research on the part numbers and found that have 4x13 size nozzles. I even took a magnifying glass to them to check. Yup 4 big holes in the tips.

My bet is they are marine angle. Who knows, pawn em and get some 6x12s in 145 angle :D or whatever size you feel best suited to go with. I haven't heard about power driven diesel's injectors, so I can't speak at all there. I do STRONGLY recommend you take a long hard look at their AFC LIVE though ;) I wouldn't own a P pumped engine without it. From everything Ive seen/heard, THD is a great route to go for injectors. You will match what is best for your needs and engine: spray angle, VCO or SAC, number of holes, orifice size, flow honing or not etc

I watched the video on that AFC live. I laughed! All it is is a couple valves to control how fast and how much boost goes to the afc. I thought it was a lot of money for what it really was. The nice thing about it is you plug it in and go, they did all the engineering on it for you. It will work on a VE pump too.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I know, someone probably thought of it 20 years ago. Its amazing to have in cab fuel control on the fly though. It won't be so great with our VE's because we can't limit near the fuel that a p pumper AFC can limit. Just like a valet, disconnecting the boost reference from the AFC on a VE shows the maximum amount of fuel you can cut. With a p pump, you can take it WAY down.
