water plumbing Q

Postby jethro » Fri Jun 03, 2016 11:09 pm

I currently have the 1 inch "drain" hose comming out of my cooling system de-gass bottle going across
the firewall and T'd into one of the heater hoses. Does that seem OK .......
( i have read where some people run it over and hook it in by the water pump some how....... )

Have I made a mistake--- or is what i have done seem OK .......

Depending on how it was plumbed before, here is a diagram on how everything does flow...for a 6.0L...

Wow- thats complicated ---

I talked with a fellow at Diesel conversion specialists today. He confirmed my suspicions that the degall bottle drain needs to go on the suction side of the loop- which would be between the rad output and the water pump inlet.....
he said that the slight positive pressure given the water on the other side would contribute to raising the pressure
in the tank leading to poping the pressure relief mechanism in the pressure cap.
He suggested to put it into the "T" near the water pump--- or into the lower rad hose. he said that should solve my
situation.
I think i will replace the rad too just to be sure Ive got full flow in the rad.

The 6.0 diagram seems to agree with that .......

Thank you.....
Tim

PS---- That 6.0 reminds me of the space shuttle----- it had 1600 items which if any one breaks- it blows up !
Nice design nasa engineers .......

I welded a nipple on the lower hose pipe that goes to the degas bottle.

As i said- I suspected that the rad might be clogged---
i replaced the rad with a new one (performance)
NOW--- when i rev the motor- the levle goes down in the de-gas canister. Did not have to change
my plumbing. I let it fully warm up and drove for a few miles--- i could just barely put my finger in the
cooling water without geting burned. (like 130F ? it was cooler than the water in my water heater)
Only a slight pressure under the cap when i removed it.
I thing the rad was probably way cloged.....
