So in my quest to bring ol blue up to snuff I decided I would pop test injectors and reset them close to 245 bar which ended up being 248 ish around 3600 psi. It lowered the rpm which I figured it might beings it would shorten the duration and retard timing a touch. (maybe I was wrong in my thinking and that it just happened for another) I drove it home and then back to work it was idling around 5-600 rpm according to my tach. Now to the problem
I fired it up to pull it in the shop and it fired right up but sputtered and blew white smoke like crazy and cleaned up. sounds like air in the system. I tried to fix a few things and found out my radiator has a crack (another story). Drove it home and fired it up again later today and it started right up but the more rpm the more it missed and blew white.
I'm assuming it's sucking air, will that reflect in the fuel pressure gauge, Will a diaphragm lift pump cause it to do that if its going bad but hold pressure running. I don't see any external leaks but haven't gotten around to looking at it to closely just yet. I'm planning on changing fuel filters and what not. Could the injection pump have been weak and now that it has to push more psi it can't handle it?? It runs fine down the road and once started is fine so I'm leaning towards air still. I'll pressurize the tank and check for leaks but just wondering what else to look for. I have another trip to Oklahoma planned for next Friday so I need to get this fixed asap. Thanks sorry its long winded.
