Fuel Shutoff Solinoid squirting fuel up in the air

Postby Collers9640 » Tue Nov 29, 2016 6:44 pm

I recently bought a truck with a rebuilt ve pump. However the fuel shutoff solinoid was leaking fuel
out of the top where the nut is the guy told me that the solinoid had not
Been replaced so I didn't think much of it. I bought a new shutoff solinoid from Genos and installed it. But the new solinoid is squirting fuel out the top in the same spot the old one was leaking and now it won't start...

Any ideas???! Could installing the pump gear wrong cause this??

I would doubt the pump gear would effect that. Maybe it's just a coincidence thing here.

No local injection shops in your area?

is there anything that could be causing excessive back pressure on the solinoid

I'm trying to avoid having to pay a shop to look at it

No not for them to look at it....but to buy another solenoid from. I don't know that much about the internals of the pump to answer that....but with the amount of these things out there I'm certain we'd have heard about this kind of thing happening before.

I I'm going to convert it to manual shutoff. Do u know if the solinoid can b removed and a plug installed

Yeah....you can do that. Won't hurt a thing.
That is how folks check case pressure on our pumps.

I would call Genos and tell them it leaks and see what they say.
Problem with plugging it is the threads, most guys gut the old solenoid and tap it for a gauge or a plug. I think I would try to get another solenoid, and in the meantime gut and tap the original for a gauge to see what kind of pressure you have in there. I can't remember if the solenoid sees inlet pressure or case pressure. Case pressure can be 300psi or so, so gauge it accordingly.

Thanks I think Im gonna take your advice and call genos to see what they say
It will squirt fuel out like a
Geyser just by priming the lift pump by hand so it's not even taking High pressure to get it to leak

Unless the pump blew it out and that's why it leaks like that now by hand. ;) Maybe ask them if they have had any problems with them, they may have gotten a bad batch.
