Won't start after sitting 2 years

Postby dchelette » Sun Feb 19, 2017 8:54 am

I acquired a 93 with a 5 speed, so I parked the 92 with AT. Now its time to put the 92 on the market, it's been sitting for 2 years. Replaced fuel filter and lift pump. Primed IP and bled injectors, squirting good at injectors. When starter is engaged it fires for a second, then quits. Every time I try it fires for that second then nothing. Because it fires, the starter will disengage and you can't keep cranking. Any help, ideas, information is greatly welcome.

Thanks,
David

Try giving it some throttle while starting. Or try some ether

Done and done, no help. Fires for that first second, then quits. Getting frustrated.

Thanks,

Is there a check valve between tank and lift pump? Can I blow back from lift pump to tank?

No check valve.

Are you seeing high pressure fuel at the injectors when bleeding or just fuel with bubbles in it?

Are you bleeding while spinning the engine over?

Have good pressure at injectors (squirting up to hood), while cranking. Tighten injector lines and it hits immediately, but dies that fast. I'm thinking plugged filter/strainer on tank pickup? Pulled return line and operated manual lever on pump, was not impressed with the amount of fuel coming out.

If you get air every time you bleed injectors I bet one of them is stuck open. If you have some known good ones swap them in or take the lines off and put some fuel in the top of the injectors. Crank it over and whichever one squirts the fuel back out is stuck

If I get a big air bubble in my 93 no amount of bleeding helps, I have to pull the heater grid grounds and run it on ether for a few seconds to get the air out and it runs like nothing happened.
