thd fuel pin

Postby odee » Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:35 pm

Guys didn't want to clog up the other thread. Just got my thd fuel pin installed over the week end. My engine is an 89 model dodge ve cummins with getrag. Have a 02 model turbo and exhaust brake on engine with banks manifold,94 style intercooler pump has 3200 gov spring and one turn on fuel screw. I seem to have lost some bottom end but engine recovers to pull harder thru gears rear gearing is 3.73 with a 235/85/16 tire. Pin was installed ramp to front. Anything to change out to pick it back up?

Turn the smoke screw (adjustment under the silver cap, located in the afc cover) down some till it takes off like it use to. You may want to turn down the star wheel some as well......all this in baby steps

guys turned the smoke screw in some 1 turn in. Truck has a hard time to start couple of tries before it runs. This adjustment has helped bottom end power some. Do I need to take the starwheel down some? Would like to really get the bottom end power back because the top end has improved vastly. Could I have anoter problem going on that the stock pin has just covered up?

Yup, drop the starwheel a couple of turns. You most likely have the stiffer green/black spring, so I'd drop it 2 turns at least. Another option could be going to the pink/green spring out of a later 91.5ish-93 pump which is a softer spring. Lots of people upgrade to a stiffer spring, so you could probably find one for a couple bucks. Not sure about the starting issue, I'd try turning the smoke screw in some more.

finally found time to pull cover off to check star wheel. I do have the green colored spring. Went to turn star wheel down to find out only had about 3/4 of turn worth of adjustment. Could the star wheel be to far down for the new pin? Is there a common number of thread to set the star wheel to? Should I start to inch the star wheel back up some? thanks

To get more low end fuel your options are smoke screw, power screw, or a softer spring. I'd bottom the smoke screw and see how it likes dem apples.

guy thanks for the help with the fuel pin issues. Have gotten the star wheel bottomed out right now power on bottom end is a lot better. Will try rounding up the lighter spring in the afc house to try to gain a little more. thanks again
