Non-Intercooled Intake Horn Thickness?

Postby justin.loehlein » Fri Nov 24, 2017 6:27 pm

So, I don't want to pay $$$ for an electronic boost gauge...plus a bunch of others, so I bought an Arduino and a few GM sensors including this MAP sensor. I'm planning on mounting it in the intake manifold or horn and wanted to see if anyone knows how thick the walls are off the top of their heads. I'll likely have to make a spacer/mount for it and I'd like to figure out how thick a piece of bar stock to get before I start drilling holes in things.

I tapped 1/4" NPT fittings into my intake horn. I couldn't tell you how thick it is, but it's thick enough.

I want to say the cast stuff is around 1/4” thick at a minimum. I put a pair of 1/8” npt plugs in the 2nd gen horn I have on mine, and it takes a little more than the full height of the plugs.

There is couple 1/2 npt holes in head, so you dont need to drill that horn or top plate if manifold.
I did drill soon as I got my truck and now I am searching for new horn.

Edit, I did not look that link first.
That type of sensor I would instal to the top plate of manifold.

Thanks, guys. Good info. I'll take a closer look this weekend. It sounds like the intake top plate is a good idea. I'll look for the existing ports, too. I could always return the sensor and get an 1/8" NPT one.
