Fuel Leak

Postby JCrank » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:48 am

I have a fuel leak on my 1993 d-350. I appears that the leak is where the front of the injection pump joins the gear case. It does not seem to be a continous leak. I can on see a small amount of fuel seep up from the top of the seam between the pump and gear case when first starting the engine. not quite 133K on the odometer.
Would the DGK-121 seal kit solve my problem ? My buddy and myself both have quite a bit of mechanical skill, but have never been into a injection pump. Would it be safe for us to tackle the seal kit ? Any special tools required ?

I would appreciate any insight, suggestions or ideas....
Thanks, Jon

my wifes 93 sprung a leak at the same spot. it turned out to be the orings on the governor shaft. pump has to come off the engine to get to them. i just swapped pumps for a spare i had, and am resealing hers to put back on the shelf.

if your leaks in the same spot you can see things easier with the top off (swap governor springs while the tops off ) when you screw the shaft back in.

Thanks for the reply.

Will the seals in the DGK-121 Seal kit take care of this seal as well ?

I've heard alot about changing the governor spring....what is the purpose and what should it be replaced with ?

Thanks !

Yes the oring is in the seal kit, available from a local Bosch dealer or Scheid Diesel will ship. A complete rebuild of a VE pump from a VW is in this link: http://www.vwdieselparts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6694

It will show you how to remove and repair just about everything in your pump minus your afc top (pump top).

Hey Bill ! Thanks for the info. You doing OK ? I don't reckon we've talked since I got you A/C bolts a while back.
