TOPHAT VALVE STEM SEALS

Postby wilkyflex » Sun Feb 24, 2019 10:32 pm

4 OF THE 12 valve stem seals slipped and were riding up the stems, thus causing oil burning and blue smoke.

Does anyone know where I can get the tophat style seals that will fit the old style 1992 cummins head?

I know I can buy the top hat seals that fit the new style head and 94-98 cummins, but they say it requires machining to get the seals to fit.

Does anyone know exactly what machining is required to make the seals fit?

Thanks

Did some brief searching and it seems like the machining is required to run the top hat style. The good part is this particular "machining" seems to be a simple single cut per int/ exh. I read multiple forum posts stating it cost from $50 to $100 to have the machine work done.
