Broke a bolt!

Postby 75Dodge » Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:43 am

When I was installing my 32K spring I broke that special bolt that goes into top of the AFC housing. It's that drilled one that allows the air flow from the manifold go into the top of the pump to act upon the diaphragm for the fuel pin. Does anybody have a part number? I could really use it...

Or possibly someone could send up some of their pics of their modified air connection. Because I know guys have changed the stock one out for different air fittings. THANKS!

I broke that bolt too!

But the injection pump shop decided to get a new one for me when I got my pump rebuilt, so I don't know the part number.

DTanklage has a pretty cool AFC hose setup. I've had terrible luck finding metric fittings of any kind for this truck...

Tell me about it. Took me half an hour to find something that would work. Right now it is plumbed with to brass fittings and a rubber hose held on with hose clamps.

It's bad...

Just drill and tap it for 1/8 NPT and then use the hole just under the intake horn that has a plug in it. This gives you more room for the line to bend and makes top removal alot easier since you don't need to remove the line if slack is provided.

Tap it to npt, (pipe thread), then use plastic air line and fittings. The head is npt already.

The drill and tap is an easy fix, I used brass fittings and 6" of big truck 1/4" air line to fix mine. It cost about $10.00 total the new metal line from Ma MoPar is around $60. You can see it in this picturehttp://www.turbodieselregister.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/1753/limit/views

I THINK I have a stock AFC setup. I know for 100% certain I have a banjo bolt or two removed from previous vehicles. They're yours for shipping ($2 or so). Or just do what I did-

Get the following from a semi truck parts house-

1/8 OD airline union
1/8NPT to 1/8OD adaptor (elbowed is optional, but makes it look neater).
6" of 1/8OD tubing

Take the ferrule and compression nut off one end of the union and put the union in the AFC housing. Perfect fit. Install the 1/8NPT-1/8OD adaptor in the head. Install the tubing, and VIOLA, functioning AFC again. Some have reported a slight loss of acceleration, others havent.
