Smoke problem

Postby Falcon » Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:24 am

After installing my DDP stage III's I keep getting a bluish haze at low boost. Almost none at idle but when I put it in gear it starts to haze. I backed off the smoke screw 3 turns, Bumped the timming about 1/4. Could it be I need a valve adjustment? I havent had it done foe a longe tine I know it's to be done every 24k I probibly have 60k on the last adjustment. Should i turn down the fuel alittle? When I pull from a stop it hazes good for 100 feet or so when I stomp on it it's coal black untill the turbo spools it clean.

Greg any updates on this, did you figure out your smoke issue? I doubt a valve adjustment would have an effect on smoke (unless the lash was REALLY out). Have you checked the basics like your fuel filter? Get all the fuel lines torqued properly, any fuel leaks?

I went through all the stuff. Turned the star wheel CCwise 2 turns and did the same with the smoke screw, and it helped a little. I still think its something else. I'll keep checking.

what thickness of washers did you use when installing the injectors?? Alot of the time you can reduce idle haze by changine the washer thickness ass it has a small effect on timing. I had to go with a thinner washer to get the 435's i used to run to be all clean at idle.
92 w250, NV4500, D80, maxed pump, AFC gone, extended fuel screw, more to come.

I called DDP they told me I have the thick washers that were sent with the injectors. They do not reccomend using the thinner washers do to contact with the piston is what I think they told me.I did not think the thickness of a washer would put the injector that close to the piston. I did back off the fuel screw 1 full turn and and turned the star wheel back to stock and it seemed to help. I will call DDP back and talk to Lenny and see what he has to say.

Greg

I would push the issue a little with Lenny. I have the 4's and in gear my truck only has a light haze.

When I ran them POD's I got the same kind of blue smoke not sure whats up with your truck.

Keep pocking sticks at it little by little.

Good to see ya bro. I did call DDP today they are sending me thinner washers, the problem with the clearance is heads that have been milled, mine has not, so new washers are on the way DDP ROCKS. Ross was my contact at DDP great guy to work with.

Just wait till you goto twins you will have all kinds of clearance.. I plan on using a .010 over head gasket. The S400 is huge next to the HX-35.

Ya want me to go to twins. Cripes I can't keep up with my single, though a larger single would be nice.
