OLD SMOKEY FUEL PIN GETTING STUCK

Postby fourwheelininajeep » Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:37 pm

HEY I DID AN OLD SMOKEY GRIND ON MY DADS FUEL PIN LAST WEEK, WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE FOR THE FIRST 3 OR 4 MINUTES HE DRIVES IT IT WILL ONLY BOOST 20 PSI AND ACT LIKE IT IS RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, THOUGHT IS WAS A BURR ON THE PIN FROM GRINDING BUT THAT AINT IT, COULD I HAVE GOT THE PIN HOT ENOUGH TO WARP IT OR SOMETHING, USED LUBRICANT WHEN I WENT BACK IN(HEHE SORRY JUST HAD TO BE DONE) :thumright: WITH IT AND GRINDED ALL THE BURRS OFF THEN POLISHED IT WITH A HAND FILE INTIL MY HANDS HURT BUT IT STILL GETS STUCK ON A COLD MORNING AND WONT FUEL UNDER BOOST, AVERAGE BOOST IS CLOSE TO 30 WITH PYRO AT 1250 TO 1300, BUT WHEN IT DOESNT FUEL PYRO DROPS TO 600 OR SO, SO I KNOW ITS NOT GETTING FUEL. ANY SUGGESTIONS

MAKE SURE whoops, sorry. Make sure the fuel cone is not turned so the small pin is going off to the side of where you ground the new ramp onto. You should be able to tell where it is traveling by the tracks it has left on the cone. when you install the cone be shure to put some grease on it for the pin to ride on. It is a good practice to wait till the temperature gauge has started to move before using enough pedal to require boost, your head gasket will love you for this!

He does let it warm up or drive it light for the first 2 or 3 miles until it comes to a decent temperature, I also have been watching the pattern of where it glides closely to make sure that my cut was a nice smooth ramp and no low or high spots it could be hung up on

Sorry about the caps I caught your little hint, sometimes I dont pay attention to what Im am doing

Someone else will have to help you on this one. The only other thing I can think of would be that the pin is being bound up on the o-ring when cold. How is your diaphram and the little boost tube that comes from the head? Hey no problem with the caps.

I think I may have figured it out, the diaphram and hose all seem to be in good shape, I noticed last time that the pattern where the little needle was gliding on the pin wasnt even touching down towards the bottom where I grinded it, I thought that I grinded the fuel pin to far and that was all the travel that needle had, but I think that the needle isnt coming all the way out, if it is then I didnt even need to grind the pin in the first place, so something must be wrong according to the smokey fuel pin on this thread that I followed you should cut away a 1/16 of an inch before it wont work anymore, my boost and egts are kind of finnicky anyway sometimes I pull 30 pounds other times I can only pull 24 or 25, same temperature same hill same amout of humidity, I think that pin is just sticking bad, it seems to run better on a hot day (70 or 80) than when its cooler 50-60 which is ass backwards. I will try to lubricate that pin with some wd40 or somthing and see if I can get it freed up
